In addition to her legislative work, Congresswoman Wilson has championed human rights on a global scale, including her advocacy for the safe return of the Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram. Domestically, she has worked to improve her district’s quality of life through significant grants, workforce development programs, and public safety initiatives. Her leadership has been recognized with appointments to President Barack Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” Alliance and the Congressional Black Caucus’s “My Brother’s Keeper” Task Force.

A Miami native, Congresswoman Wilson was inspired by her parents’ civil rights activism and has spent her life fighting for social justice and equality. She began her career as an elementary school principal and later served on the Miami-Dade County School Board, where she launched the 5000 Role Models program. She then served as a State Representative and State Senator in Florida before running for Congress. Congresswoman Wilson holds degrees in elementary education from Fisk University and the University of Miami and is the proud mother of three children and grandmother of five.
